DIABETES MELLITUS
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a heterogeneous metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to absolute or relative insulin deficiency and insulin resistance. The global burden of diabetes is steadily rising, and it is estimated that by 2045, more than 600 million adults will be affected. This epidemiological shift has directly influenced obstetric practice, as both pregestational diabetes mellitus (PGDM) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are increasingly encountered in pregnancy. Preg-nancies complicated by diabetes are classified as high-risk and are associated with adverse maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes.
