Abstract

Objective: This bibliometric study systematically analyzed global research trends in skeletal anchorage systems (SAS) from 2014 to 2024 to evaluate scientific productivity, identify key contributors, and map evolving clinical priorities in orthodontics. Material and Methods: A comprehensive search of the Web of Science Core Collection was conducted (March 2025) using keywords like ''skeletal anchorage'' and ''TADs''. English-language research/review articles between 2014-2024 were included. Bibliometric parameters (citations, authorship, journals, keywords) were extracted and analyzed using VOSviewer. Two independent researchers screened records, excluding irrelevant studies. Results: This bibliometric analysis of 738 SAS publications (2014-2024) revealed annual citations grew from 15 to 1,259. The United States (US) (183 articles), South Korea (117), and Italy (72) led research output, with American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (116 articles) and Angle Orthodontist (60 articles) as top journals. Post-2022 citation slowdown suggested field maturation despite ongoing publications. The 6,366 total citations demonstrate SAS's clinical significance and reveal opportunities for expanded global research collaboration. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis examined skeletal anchorage system research from 2014-2024, revealing significant growth in publications and citations. The US, South Korea, and Italy emerged as leading contributors, demonstrating the field's global research impact. The findings underscore skeletal anchorage's clinical importance while identifying key trends in orthodontic research.
