Abstract

Pesticides, plant growth factors and chemicals act as endocrine disrupters when taken into the bodies. Endocrine disrupters are chemicals capable of interfering with hormonal systems, posing significant health risks across childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Exposure during childhood and adolescence is associated with disturbances in sexual development, growth and metabolic dysregulation, neurodevelopmental impairments, and behavioral problems. In adults, endocrine disrupter chemicals are linked to hormonal imbalances, infertility, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular risks and neuropsychiatric disorders. Endocrine disrupting chemicals and global heating are 2 major health and environmental problems of the last 30 years. Strategies for preventing endocrine disrupting chemicals exposure are at individual, institutional and international levels. Individual measures include limiting the use of plastics and chemical products, consuming organic foods and raising environmental awareness. Institutional measures involve employing non-toxic alternatives in production processes and reducing environmental emissions. At the international level, regulations such of European Council and World Health Organization should be followed.
