Çevre Kirliliği, Mikrobiyota ve Sağlık İlişkisi
Abstract
Environmental pollution is a global problem. With the increase in the world population, environmental degradation has become inevitable. The irreversible consequences of environmental pollution affect human health both directly and indirectly. The microbiota is the community of bacteria, viruses, and fungi within the body. These microbial communities are primarily located in the colon, skin, oral cavity, and vagina. The gut microbiota is shaped by prebiotics (inulin, dietary fiber), probiotics (Lactobacillus spp.), and symbiotics (Bifidobacterium spp.). In addition, trace elements (selenium, zinc, magnesium), vitamins (vitamins D and C), and nutrients (quercetin, omega-3 fatty acids) influence the composition of the bacterial flora. This microbial flora functions as an impermeable barrier. Environmental pollutants such as pesticides, chemicals, and heavy metals disrupt this barrier, leading to dysbiosis and increased intestinal permeability. As a result, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and hormonal disorders observed today are considered consequences of malabsorption associated with leaky gut syndrome.
