Tek Sağlık ve Kurumlararası İş Birliği
Abstract
The One Health approach is a holistic framework that aims to achieve optimal health outcomes by recognizing the interconnectedness between humans, animals, plants, and the shared environment in which they coexist. It is a collaborative, multisectoral, and interdisciplinary approach implemented at local, regional, national, and global levels, emphasizing coordinated action across institutions and disciplines. The One Health concept has been jointly developed and promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and has become a cornerstone of contemporary global health strategies. The One Health approach focuses on six key domains: integrated laboratory services, prevention and control of zoonotic diseases, neglected tropical diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, and environmental health. The increasing burden of zoonotic infections, the impacts of climate change, globalization, and ecosystem degradation have further highlighted the necessity of adopting One Health principles. In this context, One Health provides a comprehensive and sustainable framework for addressing complex and emerging health challenges through early detection, coordinated response, and shared responsibility. This study evaluates the current status of the One Health approach in Türkiye and discusses its significance in the context of national health policies, institutional collaboration, and future implementation potential.
