Abstract

The quality of higher education institutions is a priority for the country's development. Therefore, strategies for achieving institutional and national goals, aligned with international quality standards, are constantly being debated. Currently, social progress is accelerating rapidly due to scientific and technological advancements; consequently, universities have a responsibility to meet the demands of an increasingly discerning society through quality university management that translates into the professional development of students. Therefore, this article presents the product of a documentary analysis and the experience of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, Managua (UNAN-Managua) in the institutional self-evaluation process, which strengthens educational quality. This analysis answered guiding questions that highlighted the institution's efforts to contribute to educational improvement, considering that, among the mechanisms for ensuring institutional quality, evaluation processes are carried out to establish strategies for achieving goals, which, in turn, lead to evaluation processes for accreditation purposes. As a result of the documentary research and experience in the institutional evaluation process, the need to strengthen the evaluation processes is highlighted since these represent the tools that, aligned with the context, insert educational institutions into a constant updating that involves all education managers.
