THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDY AND LAYOUT PLANNING FOR INDUSTRY

Companies from different sectors of the economy, especially in the manufacturing/production industry, have difficulty achieving an adequate layout for their workplaces. There are many problems with excessive movement of people, products, and materials in manufacturing companies due to inadequate or unplanned physical arrangements, causing these organizations a lot of waste and increased costs. Therefore, the objective of this article is to demonstrate the importance of using appropriate layouts within manufacturing companies and how their planning can significantly increase their profits. To achieve this objective, a selection, exploratory research, and a literature review of previously published studies related to the topic were conducted. The criteria for choosing these studies were based on the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, selecting studies from the scientific literature that presented efficient layout designs applied in companies that used the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) system. Thus, this article presents as a final result the construction of a theoretical basis that shows the importance of continuous improvement of layouts in manufacturing companies and their main benefits, such as the elimination of cost-generating waste, or even damage to manufactured products.
