AAgWa Crop Production Forecasts Briefs No. 336
Abstract
T he crop production forecasts brief series by AKADEMIYA2063's Africa Agriculture Watch (AAgWa) aims to provide more accurate and timely data on harvests and yields for 11 major crops across nearly 50African countries. The timeliness, wide availability, and easy access to this type of data will allow stakeholders across the value chain to better plan and execute policy and business actions more efficiently. The data published in the briefs are generated through the Africa Crop Production (AfCP) model, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based model applied to remotely sensed geo-biophysical data to produce estimates at pixel as well as administrative levels as early as the beginning of each growing season. In Brief 336, we provide forecasts on cassava production in DR Congo. In 2026, cassava production in DR Congo is projected to reach 54,818,363 metric tons (MT), indicating a 2% increase over 2025 production levels. The highest cassava producers are expected to be Lubero (Nord-Kivu), Gungu (Kwilu), Fizi (Sud-Kivu), Mahagi (Ituri), and Moba (Tanganyika), with production levels estimated at 2,184,401 MT, 2,132,027 MT, 2,000,793 MT, 1,671,514 MT, and 1,636,831 MT, respectively. In contrast, lower production values are observed in Tshikapa (Kasaï), Lukalaba (Kasaï-Oriental), Tshilenge (ville) (Kasaï-Oriental), Kabinda (ville) (Lomami), and Kenge (ville) (Kwango) with production of 1,147 MT, 1,084 MT, 1,068 MT, 955 MT, and 871 MT, respectively.Compared to 2025, the most significant cassava production increases in 2026 are expected in districts such as Ango (Bas-Uele), Sandoa (Lualaba), Dungu (Haut-Uele), Bafwasende (Tshopo), and Kahemba (Kwango), with differences of 207,657 MT, 192,135 MT, 190,750 MT, 155,272 MT, and 119,377 MT, respectively. These correspond to changes of 81%, 44%, 51%, 19%, and 54%.
