Abstract

This study aims to analyze the emotional changes experienced by women during the postpartum period and to present a proposal for psychoeducational workshops focused on emotional support and validation. The research was conducted in Costa Rica in 2025, using a mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory, non-experimental, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 33 postpartum women selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Data collection was carried out using a digital questionnaire developed by the researchers, which included both closed and open-ended questions about emotions such as sadness, anxiety, and guilt, as well as perceptions of the maternal role and social support. At the end of the questionnaire, participants had the option to enroll in virtual workshops that addressed topics related to emotional changes that occur during this stage. The results showed that most women reported high levels of fatigue, loneliness, and guilt associated with adapting to motherhood, highlighting the need to create spaces of emotional validation and psychoeducation to foster greater understanding. The study concludes that the workshops served as a useful resource for strengthening maternal mental health and facilitating adaptation to the new role, emphasizing the importance of incorporating such interventions into perinatal care.
