Abstract

This dataset contains phenotypic data on agronomic, reproductive and disease-related traits, collected from ten biparental wheat populations derived from nine elite Central European lines exhibiting high levels of visual anther extrusion. These populations were evaluated in two independent series (Series I and Series II) to determine whether male reproductive traits such as visual anther extrusion, plant height, heading date and flowering time could predict seed set in hybrid seed production. The resulting hybrids and their parental lines were then assessed in multiple environments for grain yield, plant height, heading date and the severity of yellow and leaf rust. Heterosis was quantified for all traits and its genetic basis investigated through joint analyses of dominance and epistatic effects.
