Концентрація експорту та імпорту товарів креативних індустрій у світовій торгівлі
Abstract
The growing role of creative industries in the structure of world trade unfolds amid profound transformations of the global economy driven by digitalisation, the expansion of intangible assets, and the reconfiguration of global value chains. Under these conditions, the concentration of exports and imports of creative goods becomes an increasingly important analytical issue, as the uneven distribution of trade flows across countries generates structural asymmetries and potential vulnerabilities in global markets. The purpose of this study is to provide a quantitative assessment of the level and dynamics of export and import concentration of creative industry goods in world trade based on concentration indices. The empirical framework relies on official statistical data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) covering the period 2010–2023. To ensure analytical consistency and avoid methodological distortions, the study constructs a correspondence matrix between UNCTAD product categories of creative goods and the classes of creative industries defined within the author’s integrated four-class classification. This matrix is used exclusively as an analytical tool for interpreting results rather than for aggregating statistical indicators. The analytical and methodological novelty of the study lies in combining the product-based logic of UNCTAD international statistics with the internal structural differentiation of creative industries, which makes it possible to identify differences in concentration processes depending on the type of creative value generated and the degree of integration between creative and technological components. The core hypothesis assumes that the level of trade concentration varies significantly across classes of creative industries and reflects distinct models of countries’ participation in global creative value chains. The results indicate a strengthening of export concentration in selected classes of creative industries, particularly those associated with technologically oriented and materially grounded forms of creative activity, pointing to the increasing dominance of a limited group of countries in specific global niches. At the same time, imports of creative goods exhibit more moderate concentration levels, reflecting a broader geographical distribution of consumption and a higher degree of supply diversification. A comparative analysis of export and import flows reveals structural asymmetries in world trade in creative goods and highlights divergent trajectories of integration of different creative industry classes into global trade processes. The practical significance of the findings lies in their potential application as an analytical basis for trade, innovation, and cultural policy aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the creative sector and mitigating excessive concentration in selected segments of global trade. Further research may focus on the impact of digital platforms and transformations of global value chains on the spatial structure of trade in creative goods.
