Integrated traditional Chinese and western rehabilitation nursing practice for a patient with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis based on the ACMMM model
Abstract
This study summarizes the rehabilitation nursing of a patient with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) based on the assessment-communication-monitoring-modify patient-modify environment (ACMMM) model. Key nursing strategies included establishing a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team integrating both traditional Chinese and Western medicine to ensure rehabilitation quality and outcomes, and implementing a three-stage management plan for target temperature control. Guided by the ACMMM model, early rehabilitation was promoted through five dimensions: Assessment, Communication, Monitoring, Modify Patient, and Modify Environment. Interventions included: timely and accurate assessment to ensure personalized and scientific rehabilitation strategies; shared decision-making to enhance adaptability and effectiveness; continuous monitoring to ensure optimal rehabilitation outcomes and patient safety; integrated early functional rehabilitation training to shorten the rehabilitation course and improve recovery; and creation of an optimal rehabilitation environment to enhance psychological comfort and satisfaction, thereby accelerating recovery. At one-month follow-up, the patient had regained consciousness, demonstrated normal cognitive and limb motor function, significantly improved urinary frequency and restored bladder control, fully resumed daily activities and study, and successfully returned to work.
