Abstract

This dataset provides the first chromosome-level reference genome for the leaf insect Cryptophyllium westwoodii (Phylliidae) to serve as a foundational resource for studying leaf-like masquerade. It includes a high-quality 4.12 Gb assembly resolved into 15 chromosomes (13 autosomes, a sex chromosome, and a putative B-chromosome), systematic annotations of repetitive elements and protein-coding genes, structural and functional analysis of the B-chromosome, and comparative genomic and developmental transcriptomic data focused on leaf-like morphology. This study contributes to our understanding of leaf-like masquerade and evolutionary origin of B-chromosome in insects, offering key datasets and testable hypotheses for the future research.
