Abstract

Climate-related shocks and stresses affect the vulnerable populations in Zambia. This study investigated the effectiveness of Zambia's social protection programs in responding to these climate-related shocks and stresses.A qualitative research approach was employed, incorporating thematic analysis of data gathered through structured questionnaires administered to beneficiaries, stakeholders, and experts. The findings showed that these programs have positive outcomes, including immediate relief, poverty reduction, and enhanced climate resilience. However, inadequate funding, limited capacity, delayed disbursements of funds, and inadequate support affected program effectiveness. To improve climate resilience and strengthen climate change adaptation efforts in Zambia, the study recommends prioritizing vulnerable populations' needs, increasing funding, and enhancing coordination and capacity building.
