Climate-Smart Agriculture: The Future Blueprint for Sustainable Food Production
Abstract
Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) has emerged as a crucial strategy for ensuring sustainable food production in the face of rising climate risks, resource degradation, and increasing global food demand. This review examines technological, institutional, and policy interventions that support CSA adoption, with a particular focus on the Indian agricultural context. It highlights how innovations such as precision farming, climate-resilient seeds, smart irrigation, and renewable energy solutions enhance productivity while reducing environmental impact. The paper analyzes key drivers and barriers influencing farmers' adoption of CSA, including access to technology, financial support, knowledge systems, and market linkages.A conceptual framework is proposed to illustrate the interconnections between CSA practices, enabling conditions, and desired outcomes in productivity, resilience, and mitigation. The review concludes by identifying opportunities for scaling CSA through stronger policy integration, community-based approaches, and targeted capacity-building initiatives, offering a future blueprint for sustainable and climateresilient food systems.
