Leveraging ecological funding for the next generation of sustainable agriculture value chains
Abstract
The transition toward sustainability in agriculture increasingly relies on the strategic mobilization of ecological funding to strengthen value chains from production to consumption. This study investigates how ecological financing mechanisms including green loans, climate funds, carbon finance, and payments for ecosystem services serve as catalytic drivers for next-generation sustainable agricultural value chains. It explores how ecological funding facilitates sustainable input use, regenerative farming practices, climate-smart technologies, green processing, and low-carbon logistics across the value chain.Adopting a thematic and conceptual research approach, the study synthesizes insights from sustainability finance frameworks, agricultural value chain governance theories, and ecological economics. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool is employed to ensure methodological rigor, transparency, and validity in the review and synthesis process. The findings reveal that ecological finance not only strengthens environmental outcomes but also enhances competitiveness, market access, and long-term profitability for agribusinesses.Policy recommendations emphasize the importance of blended finance models, public-private partnerships, and transparent impact measurement frameworks.Overall, this research underscores ecological funding as a transformative enabler of sustainable, climate-resilient, and future-ready agricultural value chains.
