Green Finance in Consumer Awareness and Perception
Abstract
This review article examines the development, role, and challenges of green finance in promoting global sustainability.By analysing existing studies, the review highlights how green finance supports environmental protection, low-carbon development, and long-term economic growth through instruments such as green bonds, green banks, and ESG-based financial systems. The literature shows that although green finance is widely recognized as essential for achieving climate goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), significant gaps remain in consumer awareness, policy implementation, and private-sector engagement.Consumer perception and willingness to adopt green financial products are strongly influenced by awareness, clarity of information, and trust in financial institutions. The findings also reveal that limited promotion, insufficient disclosure, and a lack of consistent green taxonomies reduce the effectiveness of green finance initiatives. The review concludes that strengthening regulatory frameworks, improving consumer education, expanding innovative green financial tools, and fostering publicprivate partnerships are crucial for closing the green financing gap and accelerating the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.
