Abstract

The people are using a lot of electricity these days. They need to know exactly how much they are using. This is why smart energy metering systems were developed. This project focuses on the design and implementation of a Smart Energy Meter. The Smart Energy Meter monitors and records real-time electricity consumption. It uses sensors to measure voltage and current and then calculates power and energy consumption.A microcontroller processes the collected data and sends it to the user. The user receives messages on their mobile phone indicating electricity usage and the corresponding billing amount. These messages are transmitted through a GSM module in the form of SMS alerts. The proposed system eliminates manual meter reading, reduces human error, and provides timely information to consumers. It also helps users monitor electricity usage, avoid over-consumption, and manage energy efficiently. The smart energy meter is cost-effective, reliable, and suitable for residential as well as commercial applications. This system supports automation in electricity billing and contributes to the development of smart grids.
