Abstract

This study investigates construction project planning from the clients' perspective and its influence on project delivery in road construction projects in Imo State, Nigeria. The study focuses on identifying planning practices adopted by clients, examining the level of awareness and application of planning tools, and assessing factors influencing planning effectiveness and overall project performance.A cross-sectional research approach was adopted, integrating quantitative and qualitative methods.Data were collected from 132 respondents drawn from a population of 241 stakeholders involved in road construction projects. The results reveal a significant positive relationship between project planning dimensions-monitoring intensity, risk management, and evaluation-and construction project performance. The findings further indicate that project outcomes were strongly influenced by the adequacy and utilization of key resources, including funding, skilled personnel, and construction materials, which contributed to delays, cost overruns, and quality challenges. The study recommends increased commitment to systematic evaluation and risk management practices by Imo State authorities to enhance service delivery and performance in road construction projects.
