PR676-233801-R11 Effects of Hydrogen on Pipeline Girth Weld Integrity
Abstract
This report is Deliverable 11 of PRCI project NDE-4-24, Circumferential Crack Management Framework. It is an extension of Deliverable 10, which introduces the reader to the general effects of hydrogen in pipeline steels. This current report summarizes important aspects of girth weld quality in vintage and modern pipeline steels. It also reviews features presented in the PRCI ABD-1 and SIA-1-7 tensile strain capacity (TSC) models. Finally, the report considers the applicability and potential impact of hydrogen on girth weld TSC predictions. Recommendations are provided to guide future testing to validate the models for gaseous hydrogen service.
