Historical Dynamics of the Boschbouw Area and Its Utilization in the Development of Madiun City
Abstract
The Boschbouw area is one of the heritage landscapes of forestry education in the Dutch East Indies colonial era which was formed through various historical dynamics of functions in Madiun City. Despite its historical value, the region has suffered from visual degradation, fragmentation of function, and loss of identity readability. This research aims to examine historical dynamics, spatial character, visual quality, and the potential for sustainable use of the area. The research method uses a mixed approach through primary sources through direct observation of the four main aspects of ecology, economy and efficiency, equity and safety, as well as aesthetics and secondary sources with document data, literature data, community perception questionnaires. The results of the analysis show that the area still retains the elements of the area but the quality of the space has decreased due to development pressure, dysfunctional irregularities, and no management integration. The analysis emphasizes that the area has strategic value for utilization supported by historical attraction, creative economy potential, and high public acceptance. This study concludes that utilization needs to be directed at strengthening regional identity to encourage the Boschbouw area as an adaptive and sustainable area
