Contrafactul în jazz: sursă de inspiraţie, Influenţe europene, blues şi Igot Rhythm
Abstract
This article explores the phenomenon of contrafact in jazz - a technique where a new melody is composed over a wellknown harmonic structure, such as the 12-bar blues and "IGot Rhythm". The text highlights ancient European influences, like the medieval contrafactum and the parody mass, demonstrating the continuity of creative processes in music. The practice of contrafact allowed jazz to evolve rapidly, generating new standards and encouraging melodic and harmonic innovation. It also enabled artists to avoid paying certain royalties, thus granting greater artistic freedom. The blues and RhythmChanges have provided a stable yet flexible framework, becoming pillars of the modern jazz repertoire.
