Abstract

The work of composer Vlad Burlea offers a vast field for the study of various aspects related to musical art, compositional techniques, tradition and modernity, etc. The theme of incorporating folkloric sources in Vlad Burlea's works represents a distinct subject, within which we can identify different levels of this phenomenon: from the direct use of folk material and its passage through the creative and compositional filter specific to academic music (of the chamber orchestra, the symphonic orchestra, the piano, and others), to the absorption of elements of musical folklore into a complex texture that reveals a sophisticated contemporary compositional language. "Chişinăul de cândva" for flute and string orchestra is a compelling example of the use of folklore in compositional creation.
