Women representation în Emil Loteanu's works
Abstract
The cinematography of Emil Loteanu, one of the defining voices of the "Moldova-Film" studio, is characterized by a romantic aesthetics in which female characters play a significant role, though not an explicitly central thematic one. Since his works were created within a Soviet context isolated from the feminist film theories emerging in the West, they have not previously been examined through the lens of gender studies. This article analyzes the representation of female characters in several of the director's key films, assessing their narrative functions, degree of autonomy, and relationship to the gender stereotypes of the period. The study proposes integrating a gender perspective into the analysis of Emil Loteanu's filmography and, more broadly, into research on Moldovan and post-soviet cinema
