Abstract

Purpose: This study analyzes the relationship between Spiritual Well-Being and the Quality of Consumer Experience in the consumption of symbolic spiritual products. Methodology: Through a descriptive study involving 447 visitors in a pilgrimage context, the relationships between Spiritual Well-Being (SWB) and the quality of the consumer experience (EXQ) were analyzed. Structural Equation Modeling was employed for the analysis, which included comparisons based on gender and visitation frequency. Findings: The results reveal that SWB levels are high among sanctuary visitors and exert a positive influence on EXQ. Additionally, group comparisons highlighted a positive and significant relationship between SWB and EXQ for women and frequent visitors, whereas this relationship was non-significant or negative for men and first-time visitors. Theoretical contributions: This study contributes to the fields of consumer behavior, promoting the perspective of spiritual well-being as a variable of influence on consumer experiences, from the perspective of consumer motivation theory. Originality: Despite existing studies on SWB and EXQ, investigations into their relationship remain limited. Moreover, the approach in the context of the consumption of symbolic spiritual goods makes this delimitation even more original and relevant. Relevance: These findings demonstrate how spirituality can shape and enrich individuals’ overall experiences in symbolic consumption contexts and sacred places, offering unique contributions to the understanding of well-being in these settings. Implications for management or social: The results indicate that integrating natural elements and promoting effective team interactions with visitors improves transcendental experiences and general satisfaction.
