Overview of technological and scientific prospecting in the development of a rapid test for inflammatory bowel disease
Abstract
Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs) are chronic inflammatory disorders that affect the gastrointestinal tract, including Crohn's disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). These diseases lack rapid and specific diagnoses; therefore, a rapid diagnostic method for IBDs is required. This study aimed to conduct a technological and scientific prospecting study on the existence of rapid diagnostic methods for IBDs by searching patent applications and scientific articles addressing this topic. Specific keywords and Boolean operators were used in the search field corresponding to the title or abstract of the files searched. The data obtained revealed that although there are a significant number of publications related to the diagnosis and monitoring of IBDs, the number of studies focused specifically on rapid tests is still limited, with a lack of patents with this applicability, which reinforces the innovative nature of research involving the use of rapid tests. Therefore, research and advances in improving these diagnostic tests can facilitate more effective monitoring and diagnosis, reduce the need for invasive procedures, and consequently provide fast and accurate results.
