Coram Deo and the Spirituality of Life: Theological Reflections on the Crisis of Christian Spirituality
Abstract
The crisis of spirituality in the lives of Christians is increasingly seen through the fading of the consciousness of life before God or coram Deo. The pressures of modern culture, consumerism, and digital rhythms make the relationship with God superficial and tend to be ritualistic. The imbalance between religious activity and inner depth suggests that faith often turns into a formal identity without transformative power. Spiritual exhaustion, spiritual alienation, and superficial religious practices underscore the need to revisit the theological foundations of Christian spirituality. This research examines the meaning of the Deo coram as the basis for the renewal of spirituality today. This research uses a qualitative approach with the method of literature study, where the entire analysis is based on a systematic search of theological texts, contemporary academic works, classical spiritual writings, and historical sources on the concept of coram Deo and Christian spirituality.
