Unraveling Trauma-Induced Psychopathology and the Dynamics of Trauma Bonding in Intimate Relationships – A Systematic Review
Abstract
Trauma profoundly impacts individuals’ psychological and physical well-being, often leading to disorders such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and dissociative conditions. Early-life trauma disrupts neurobiological development and emotional regulation, increasing vulnerability to mental health challenges. In intimate relationships, trauma can foster as trauma bonding, a maladaptive attachment formed through cycles of abuse and intermittent affection, complicating recovery. This review synthesizes current research on trauma-induced psychopathology and trauma bonding to enhance understanding of their complex biopsychosocial mechanisms and effects on daily functioning.
