Monetary Integration and the Coordination of Cryptocurrency and Fiat Money in the Digital Asset Era
Abstract
The rapid expansion of blockchain-based assets and decentralized financial markets is reshaping the architecture of modern monetary systems and extending the analytical boundaries of monetary economics. This study investigates the interaction between cryptocurrency ecosystems and traditional fiat-based monetary frameworks, examining how technological attributes, monetary-system functions, and market-behavior dynamics jointly influence the conditions for monetary coordination. The research aims to evaluate the feasibility of crypto–fiat integration, identify structural risks that may undermine coordination, and develop a conceptual model for understanding hybrid monetary environments in the digital asset era. Findings indicate that blockchain transparency, programmability, and real-time data availability, together with the functional complementarity between crypto assets and fiat currencies, create a preliminary foundation for potential integration. The forward-looking nature of crypto market signals also provides additional informational value for monetary analysis. However, persistent market volatility, technological vulnerabilities, fragmented regulatory regimes, and social risk factors pose substantial constraints on sustainable coordination. The study underscores that advancing future financial innovation requires a deeper understanding of these mechanisms.
