Abstract

The aim of the article is to present Germaine de Staël as a precursor of comparative studies.It focuses on her views in essays: De la littérature considerée dans ses rapports avec les institutionssociales (1800) and De l’Allemagne (1810). In placing the author among the precursors of comparativeresearch, this article reconstructs her concept of revitalization and describes the importanceof translations in de Staël’s idea of comparative studies.
