Lokalt återförande av samiska museiföremål med stöd av 3D-teknik
Abstract
Many museums hold objects in their collections that originate from Indigenous peoples, and various initiatives are currently underway to return such items. This article describes how Silvermuseet, a local history museum in Sábme, has collaborated with Sámi families and individuals to help them re-establish connections with belongings in the museum’s care. Through museum visits combined with the creation of 3D models, they have been able to reclaim aspects of their history and cultural heritage. This working method offers a model for other museums seeking to develop new approaches to the care of ethically sensitive objects, and this can also contribute to the ongoing Sámi identity processes. The article also highlights how museums engaged in repatriation may at times need to challenge the very foundations of traditional collection management. In addition, the article discusses some of the challenges that can arise in Sámi repatriation processes.
