Abstract

Obstetric emergencies are a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality, particularly when childbirth takes place at home without the support of skilled health personnel. Family preparedness plays a key role in recognizing danger signs and initiating early actions before professional medical assistance is obtained. Objective: To describe family preparedness in facing obstetric emergencies during home childbirth. Methods: This study employed a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted in the working area of Matakali Health Center in 2023, involving 60 families who had experience assisting home childbirth within the last two years. Data were collected using a family preparedness questionnaire covering aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and actions. Data analysis was performed descriptively. Results: The findings showed that most families had a moderate level of knowledge (46.7%) and positive attitudes (72%); however, only 30% of families demonstrated good preparedness in decision-making when facing obstetric emergencies. Conclusion: Family preparedness remains suboptimal, particularly in the action component. Education and continuous guidance by health professionals are strongly needed to improve family preparedness in managing obstetric emergencies during home childbirt
