Endovascular treatment of patients with distal cerebral artery aneurysms
Abstract
INTRODUCTION . Distal cerebral aneurysms (DCAs) represent a relatively rare pathology. Currently, there are no standardized treatment approaches for these aneurysms. Advances in endovascular devices and techniques have expanded the possibilities for intravascular management of distal cerebral artery aneurysms, shifting the focus from deconstructive to reconstructive strategies. AIM . To evaluate short- and long-term angiographic and clinical outcomes of endovascular treatment in patients with DCAs of various locations. MATERIALS AND METHODS . We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of endovascular treatment in 79 patients with 81 DCAs treated between 2015 and 2023 at Department of Neurosurgery No. 3 at the Polenov Neurosurgery Institute – the branch of Almazov National Medical Research Centre (St. Petersburg), using various endovascular techniques. RESULTS . DCAs for 2.7 % of all intracranial aneurysms. Aneurysms were most frequently located in the territories of the pericallosal and middle cerebral arteries. Morphologically, anterior cerebral artery (ACA) aneurysms significantly differed from other DCAs: they were more commonly saccular (p=0.005), bifurcation-type (p
