The impact of SSTR2 expression on the aggressive and recurrent course of WHO Grade I–II meningiomas
Abstract
INTRODUCTION . Somatostatin receptor type 2 (SSTR2) is an important biomarker for meningiomas and is widely used in diagnosis and therapy due to its high expression frequency in tumor tissue. Despite extensive study of SSTR2, its association with the aggressive and recurrent course of WHO Grade I–II meningiomas remains poorly defined. Understanding the role of receptor expression may have implications for disease prognosis and the selection of targeted therapy.AIM. To evaluate the effect of SSTR2 expression on the aggressive and recurrent course of Grade I–II meningiomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS . The study included 20 histological specimens of Grade I–II meningiomas, divided into a study group (n=11) with an aggressive or recurrent course and a control group (n=9) without these features. SSTR2 expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry with quantitative determination of the proportion of positively stained cells in five fields of view. Statistical analysis included the Shapiro – Wilk test, Levene’s test, Mann – Whitney U-test, Spearman correlation analysis and linear regression. Significance was set at p
