Digital Transformation of Six Sigma: The Role of AI, IoT, and Blockchain in Pharmaceutical Operation
Abstract
Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) are systematic methods for reducing variability, increasing productivity, and maintaining consistent quality in pharmaceutical operations.Systematic problem-solving and process standardization are supported by tools like DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control), Voice of the Customer (VoC), Just-in-Time (JIT), Kaizen, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Jidoka, and 5S.Artificial Intelligence(AI), Machine Learning (ML), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain are some of the technologies that are transforming LSS practices with Industry 4.0.AI and ML facilitate predictive analytics, automate Six Sigma documentation, and forecast deviations using datadriven insights.IoT increases real-time monitoring, traceability, and resource optimization, while Blockchain assures transparency, security, and compliance with immutable data.Advanced models such as recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and long short-term memory (LSTM) enable predictive maintenance, enhancing equipment reliability and decreasing operating risks. These advantages are demonstrated by case studies, which show how businesses using ML for defect prediction and predictive analytics for quality control have increased compliance, cut costs, and improved product consistency.Through programs like the Digital Health Innovation Action Plan, regulatory agencies like the FDA are assisting this digital transition.Pharmaceutical companies can achieve sustainable quality excellence and zero-defect manufacturing by integrating digital intelligence with LSS.
