A New Revolution in the Gambling Business in India

Gambling in India is undergoing a radical shift in the digital world that is driven by widespread smartphone adoption, Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-driven payments, the rise of online casinos, and fantasy sports apps.This has moved the gambling activities off the traditional physical sites to easily accessible virtual space.The online gambling market in India is experiencing a robust growth in recent years, which can be explained by the technological changes, young population, and changing consumer behaviour (Grand View Research, 2024; IMARC, 2025;Nishith Desai Associates, 2024).However, the digital revolution brings new issues, such as gambling addiction, regulatory gaps, offshore illegal organizations, and the increased social risks.This paper is a survey of the contemporary condition of gambling revolution in India and how it can be explained, the effects, the complications of the regulation, and policy demands.
