Development and Static Analysis of Floor Tiles Manufactured from Waste Foundry Sand and Epoxy Resin
Abstract
In this project, waste green foundry sand was collected, processed, and blended with epoxy resin in different proportions to identify the optimal mix for maximum mechanical performance. The composite tiles were cast using prepared moulds and allowed to cure under controlled laboratory conditions. After curing, detailed static analysis was carried out to determine key properties such as compressive strength, hardness, water absorption, and wear resistance. These results were compared with those of conventional ceramic and cement tiles to evaluate performance improvements. The findings show that incorporating waste foundry sand increases the density and load-carrying capacity of the composite, while the epoxy matrix enhances bonding and significantly reduces brittleness. This combination results in better impact resistance, higher durability, and improved overall structural stability. The study also points out the economic advantages of utilizing industrial waste, as it reduces production costs and contributes to efficient waste management.Additionally, the use of waste materials helps minimize environmental pollution and supports sustainable material development.Overall, the research concludes that foundry-sand-epoxy composite tiles present a promising eco-friendly alternative for flooring applications, offering both superior performance and environmental benefits.
