Design and Development of an Automatic Spray-Painting Mechanism
Abstract
Spray painting is one of the important surface finishing processes applied to various manufacturing industries for corrosion protection, improved appearance, and increased product life. However, conventional manual spray painting has a number of drawbacks like uneven paint thickness, excessive paint wastage, low production efficiency, and serious health hazards to operators due to continuous exposure to paint fumes. This project work aims at designing and developing a button-operated automatic painting spray mechanism with timecontrolled motor rotation. In the system, the required rotation time of the motor is set through push buttons, and based on the preset time, the spray gun operates automatically without continuous human interference.Upon pressing the start button, the motor rotates for the duration selected and the spray gun performs uniform paint spraying at the same time.Upon completion of the set time, the motor and spray gun shut off automatically. It ensures precision control and even thickness of paint application, while at the same time minimizing painting waste, enhancing safety, and increasing productivity. The system so devised is of simple construction, inexpensive, energy-efficient, and quite suitable for small-and medium-scale industries.Experimental results confirm that the automatic system provides better surface finish, reliable operation, and improved efficiency compared to traditional manual spray painting methods.
