Design and Development of Dung Composting Machine
Abstract
Agricultural and livestock activities produce huge quantities of dung, which, in the absence of proper management, leads to foul smell, fly infestation, and water pollution.Conventional composting of dung is laborintensive, space-consuming, and produces uneven decomposition. This project attempts to develop and design a simple dung composting machine that accelerates the composting process by mechanical mixing, aeration, and moisture regulation. The machine has a revolving drum system driven by an electric motor and has blades to mix the compost material continuously and provide oxygen to the compost. The system is designed to have proper aeration, temperature, and moisture levels for effective composting.Cow dung and waste are successfully converted into usable compost by the prototype within a relatively short time when compared to conventional methods. This method offers an efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solution for rural smallscale farmers to dispose of organic waste and generate quality manure.
