Friction Welding of Aluminium Alloys
Abstract
Friction welding joins metals without melting them -this helps avoid issues like cracks or bubbles, common in regular welding, particularly with tough aluminum types. For this study, researchers tested how well two different aluminum kinds -Al 7075 and Al 2014 -bond using rotation-based friction welding on a standard CNC lathe. One piece, made of Al 7075, spun during the process; the other, from Al 2014, stayed still. They checked how factors including spin rate, rubbing force, along with squeeze pressure influenced the strength and quality of the resulting joints.Once welded, the joints went through tests on strength and hardness -then got stacked up against the base metals.Findings showed solid, clean connections formed across the different aluminum types.Even though the welds weren't quite as strong as the original metal, they held up well enough for realworld use.Turns out, spinning friction welding works great for linking Al 7075 with Al 2014 -no extra rods or gas needed.
