AI Legal Assistant (Indian Law)
Abstract
The Indian legal system is extensive and often difficult for common citizens to understand due to complex terminology. Most people rely on lawyers even for basic legal queries, which increases both time and cost.Artificial Intelligence (AI) can bridge this gap by providing instant, simplified legal guidance.Using Natural Language Processing (NLP), machines can understand legal texts and generate human-like responses.Existing legal platforms are mostly designed for professionals and lack user-friendly explanations for common users. There is a growing need for a system that simplifies laws and guides users step-by-step.The proposed AI Legal Assistant focuses on Indian laws such as IPC, CrPC, and CPC.It can summarize legal sections, answer queries conversationally, and explain legal procedures clearly. The system also supports document analysis, penalty calculations, and multilingual interaction.Transformer-based or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models are used to ensure accurate and context-aware responses.A chat interface provides accessible text and voice communication for all users.Overall, the AI Legal Assistant aims to enhance legal awareness and make justice more accessible and understandable for everyone in India.
