Abstract

The research studied the modeling of automatic control of EHSA in a mash filter. The problem of EHSA is the complexity and non -linearity of the dynamic behavior of the EHSA.A physical model is so complex and timeconsuming to simulate and characterize analytically hence there arises a need for model simplification. The complexity was reduced and non -linearity also linearized by estimating a transfer function using a system identification toolbox. The input-output data from the physical model was used to estimate the transfer function model. The estimated transfer function model was verified and validated in this research and was used to simulate the performance of the operation of the EHSA base mash filter. The result of the research simulation showed that a properly tuned PID -controller could damp the overshot while maintaining good rising time, settling time and removing loading steady-state error. In the research, the PID controller was able to develop a force of 16.5kN at piston at a pump pressure of 210 pa with no steady-state error and the rising time and settling time 0.0711seconds and 0.1619seconds respectively. The research was able to linearize the nonlinearity and also simplified the complexity of the physical model and improve on the performance of the mash filter.
