Abstract

Agriculture is a crucial economic activity in most nations, but farmers are still struggling with the problem of ineffective water use, animal and insect damages, fire risks and the necessity to have an officer monitoring the fields all the time.In order to resolve these problems, the paper will create the design and implementation of an automated farm system, which will automate irrigation, field security, and crop protection. The suggested design will allow the automatic turn-ON and turn-OFF of the water pump depending on the availability of water on the field hence avoiding over-irrigation and wastage of electrical energy.Infrared (IR) transmitter receiver couples are utilized as a means of detecting entry of animals or intruders into the farm and initiate audible signal system. To improve visibility and safety after it gets dark, there is an automatic night light mechanism which is implemented using light based sensing. Also, fire detection and control unit triggers a water pump and alarm upon fire detection, which reduces damages. There are also the mechanisms of bird deterrence and insect control to ensure that crops are not exposed to external threats. The system developed is affordable, simple to deploy, and it needs minimum human assistance, which makes it applicable in the small and mediumsized agricultural farms. The results of the experiment indicate improved water conservation, better crop protection and better operational efficiency thus helping in the sustainable and safe agricultural practices.
