“Optimization of Replacement Levels of Waste Glass Dust and Marble Powder in Concrete”
Abstract
The growing demand for sustainable construction materials has led to increased interest in the utilization of industrial and construction waste in concrete production. This study investigates the effect of waste glass dust as a partial replacement of fine aggregate and marble powder as a partial replacement of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) on the properties of concrete. The main objective is to evaluate the feasibility, strength characteristics, and environmental benefits of using these waste materials in concrete.Different concrete mixes were prepared by replacing cement with marble powder at 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%, and fine aggregate with waste glass dust at 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%.The workability of fresh concrete was assessed using standard tests, while the hardened properties were evaluated through compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength tests at different curing periods. The results indicated that the incorporation of waste glass dust and marble powder improved the mechanical properties of concrete up to an optimum replacement level, after which strength gradually decreased. The use of these materials also contributed to reduced cement consumption, improved particle packing, and enhanced durability characteristics. This research highlights the potential of waste glass dust and marble powder as ecofriendly and cost-effective alternative materials in concrete production.Their use can reduce environmental pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote sustainable construction practices in the civil engineering industry.
