AN ANALYTICAL STUDY ON AUTO GEARING MECHANISM OF FOUR WHEELERS IN COIMBATORE CITY
Abstract
This study analyses the auto gearing mechanisms of four-wheelers in Coimbatore City, focusing on manual, automatic (AMT, CVT, torque converter), and electric vehicle transmission systems. It examines consumer preferences, awareness, and the impact of traffic conditions, driving comfort, fuel efficiency, and maintenance cost on the choice of transmission. The study uses a descriptive and analytical research design with primary data collected from 151 respondents and secondary data from published sources. The findings show that manual transmission vehicles remain popular due to affordability, while automatic vehicles are increasingly preferred for comfort in congested urban traffic. The study also evaluates the influence of socio-economic factors such as age, income, occupation, and driving experience on transmission selection.Statistical tools including percentage analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and chi-square test are used for meaningful interpretation of data. The growing adoption of electric vehicles and its impact on traditional gearing systems are also highlighted. The research helps consumers make informed vehicle choices. It also supports automobile manufacturers and policymakers in understanding urban transmission trends.
