Abstract

This research project examines the implications of the military's continued reliance on outdated and often budget-constrained technologies, as well as their impact on veterans' technical skills gaps when adapting to post-service needs. The review of specific military equipment points out how the resultant skill sets are rarely pertinent to technologies commonly found in today's civilian life. When looking for work, veterans often find organizations that are dependent on advanced digital systems in their daily operations, which can make the adjustment to civilian organizational life even more difficult.Legacy system use during active duty not only makes it difficult to develop important technical skills but also fosters a persistent gap in skills among service personnel leaving active duty for civilian life. This review examines the specific challenges faced by veterans who lack the necessary knowledge and skills in software, hardware, and information networking, resulting in poor integration into modern organizations. This analysis examines the challenges that outdated military technologies pose in discouraging veterans from pursuing mental health and career success in a civilian, technology-proliferated workforce. Then again, this research addresses potential policy solutions to the technology skill divide, especially regarding their potential to lessen many of the burdens that ail veterans in finding working associations or even pursuing better job opportunities-a conduit toward a far more inclusive and capable workforce.Bayazid et al. (2025) provide a good overview of the topic. This will be summarized in the conclusion and form part of the policy recommendations for closing the technical skills gap and better integration of veterans into current organizations.
