RiderConnect – A Ride Sharing Platform
Abstract
Recent advancements in web-based geolocation technologies, real-time communication frameworks, and distributed data processing have enabled a new generation of intelligent mobility platforms capable of supporting coordinated group travel. However, despite growing adoption of ride-sharing and navigation systems, most existing solutions remain individual-centric, commercially driven, and insufficiently equipped to support real-time group safety and coordination. This review examines key developments in real-time location tracking, WebSocket-based communication, distance monitoring algorithms, and privacy-aware group mobility systems.Focusing on representative studies and practical implementations, the review highlights both the capabilities and persistent limitations of current ride-sharing and tracking platforms. The analysis reveals critical gaps, including the absence of continuous group-level situational awareness, unreliable handling of network disruptions, and limited safety-oriented design.Building on the strengths and weaknesses identified, the paper presents RiderConnect, a real-time group-based ride coordination system that integrates live location sharing, distance-based alerts, and instant communication within a lightweight browser-based architecture. The review concludes with a discussion of system robustness, safety implications, sustainability benefits, and future research directions toward community-driven smart mobility solutions [1], [11], [14]
