Abstract

The Kumbh Mela is widely recognized as the largest peaceful human gathering in the world, drawing tens of millions of pilgrims over a short span of weeks. The extraordinary scale, temporary urban infrastructure, fluctuating crowd densities, and dynamic mobility patterns present unprecedented security and crowd management challenges.Traditional surveillance systems, dependent on manual monitoring and reactive deployment, struggle to provide predictive insights or real-time adaptive coordination. This paper proposes KumbhConnect, a scalable AI-driven security framework designed for deployment during Kumbh Mela 2027.The framework integrates computer vision, predictive crowd analytics, drone-based aerial intelligence, IoT sensor fusion, and AI-assisted command dashboards to enhance situational awareness and response coordination.Leveraging insights from previous Maha Kumbh deployments in Prayagraj, and drawing upon media-reported implementations of AI-enabled surveillance systems (e.g., coverage by NDTV, Al Jazeera, The Economic Times, India Today, and The Times of India), we present a comprehensive technical architecture for predictive, scalable, and ethically compliant event security. The proposed framework demonstrates how AI can reduce response latency, detect anomalous crowd behavior, optimize resource allocation, and ensure public safety while respecting privacy and regulatory constraints.
