An Extended Reality (XR)–Based Tactical Support System with Edge AI–Driven Threat Detection Network for High-Risk Defense Operations
Abstract
Traditional defense VR/AR systems primarily focus on data visualization and lack real-time threat detection capabilities, limiting their effectiveness in high-risk operations. This project proposes an Extended Reality (XR)-based tactical support system integrated with edge AI-driven threat detection and a distributed sensor network to enhance mission safety and operational efficiency. The system employs an XR headset with an integrated camera to capture live visual data during field operations, which is processed locally using edge AIbased facial recognition to identify terrorists or high-risk suspects from an encrypted database.Instant XR alerts are provided to soldiers upon threat detection, while suspect images and relevant details are simultaneously transmitted to the base station through a secure two-way wireless communication link.By enabling real-time analysis, rapid decision-making, and seamless coordination between field units and command centers, the proposed system significantly improves situational awareness, response speed, and soldier safety in high-risk defense operations.
