Abstract

Water storage tanks are widely installed overhead in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.Nowadays, dust, algae, bacteria, and sediments accumulate inside the tank, thus degrading water quality and posing serious health risks.Conventional manual cleaning methods are labor-intensive, unhygienic, timeconsuming, and lead to water wastage.Hence, there is a strong need of an automated and intelligent solution. This paper presents an IoT based Automatic Water Tank Cleaning and Monitoring System. In this system, Arduino UNO is integrated with an ultrasonic sensor for water level measurement, a turbidity sensor for water quality monitoring, and a float switch for overflow detection.Based on sensor data, the controller automatically activates a submersible motor and suction pump using relay modules to perform autonomous cleaning and refilling operations. An ESP8266 Wi-Fi module enables IoT connectivity, allowing real-time monitoring of water level, turbidity, and system status on a cloud platform.Simulation results show that the proposed system can continuously monitor the tank condition and automate cleaning, and filling of tank based on real-time input conditions received by the sensors. This method is low-cost, scalable, and suitable for homes, apartments, hospitals, industries, and smart city applications.
